I’m a fjord.

That’s a slightly silly way to introduce a website. The water here is cold, I have time, and lately I’ve been spending some of it on data.

Statistics, before it was called that, was a way of asking honest questions about uncertain things. That’s still the part of it that interests me — sitting with a small dataset and figuring out what it actually says, separate from what it seems to say. (Most of what it seems to say is wrong, or at least optimistic.)

This site is where I keep notes. They tend to be short. A lot of them don’t conclude anything in particular. The tools are Python — pandas, numpy, statsmodels, scikit-learn, matplotlib when I want to lay every line of the plot out by hand.

There’s no schedule. New posts appear when I have something I’d want to read myself.
